We are often asked what Bubble Box means and why we chose this name for our company.
We didn’t just whip this one up out of the blue. Bubble represents soap bubbles, childhood memories and pure happiness. At the same time, it also stands for washing, cleanliness and freshness.
Makes sense, doesn’t it?
But box? This does not primarily refer to the washing machine, as many would immediately assume. Box represents our lockers. The original idea was not the already established home delivery service, but lockers with 24/7 access for our customers.
This means that laundry can be dropped off and picked up again around the clock. There are already such locker stations at 4 locations in Zurich. More will follow soon.

For example, we rely on detergent dosing pumps, hot water recovery systems and use a biodegradable clothing film as transport protection instead of the conventional plastic film.
And we are also committed to our employees. For example, we have introduced a minimum wage of CHF 4,000 for a full-time position, support training and further education, and offer opportunities in all areas.

Once upon a time… No, just kidding. But almost. Jack, our founder & CEO spent five years in the USA. In his job, he depends on fresh shirts and suits, but has long workdays and little free time. And in New York, laundry services exist that are hard to beat for convenience. Back home, Jack missed nothing more than the convenient service for his fresh laundry.
After a few weeks back in Switzerland, the pile of laundry became too big and going to the local dry cleaner too tedious. If no dry cleaner offers this service, they do it themselves. Together with the current Chairman Roger, they brainstormed, they planned, they tried and discarded everything again until their heads felt as if they had just gone through a spin cycle.
The concept was ready, the company name was found and the logo was created. The most important component and heart of the company: the own online platform was programmed as MVP.
On 16.12.2016 the company was baptized “Bubble Box”. Now we’re ready to go!
Blow by blow, we’re moving forward. It’s go-live day and we launch with our own booking platform and two delivery trucks. Effective immediately, we serve the city of Zurich with the Bubble Box home delivery service and move into our first physical location on Uetlibergstrasse in Zurich.
Our baby learns to walk! On January 12th, 2017, we made our first pickup at a customer’s home in Zurich. If we thought it was turbulent before, we now realized what a walking baby really means. Currently we don’t have our own production and for every order we have to go to our partner dry cleaner, who does the cleaning for us.
We have grown and took over our first production in June 2018. At Kirchstrasse in Wallisellen, from now on all orders for Bubble Box will be processed on site by our team. For the first time, we can offer an A-Z service in-house. A milestone!
In March 2019, we opened the first Locker Station at Mattenhof in Zurich. The original idea of Bubble Box – a 24/7 service where customers can deposit and pick up their laundry whenever it suits them – becomes reality!
Baloise is expanding its ecosystem «Home» in May 2019 with a majority stake in Bubble Box. Through this step, Bubble Box has been able to attract strong partners with Baloise and MOVU, which is also part of the ecosystem «Home», to further grow and expand its offering.
Through this partnership, we were able to open additional home delivery service areas in September 2019. In addition to the city of Zurich, we now also serve the surrounding regions in the north of Zurich as well as Zug, Lucerne and Winterthur. Basel and Berne will follow in a further step.
A few days before the first Corona lockdown, we put out our feelers even further into central Switzerland and took over a production facility on Luzernerstrasse in Rotkreuz. Although the lockdown did not give us an easy start, we were able to establish the new store excellently and have been serving the Lucerne and Zug regions from the Rotkreuz location since March 2020.
The next big step is coming up: the nationwide launch of Bubble Box. In collaboration with Swiss Post, the “Wöschpost” offer was launched in April 2020. With Wöschpost, Bubble Box is now available for the whole of Switzerland. The laundry is picked up by the postman, washed, cleaned, cared for, ironed and folded by us and sent back to your home by parcel.
Bubble Box’s sustainability concept also includes the shortest possible travel distances for laundry. In January 2021, we were able to take over the traditional company Keller with three locations in Basel, Binningen and Allschwil and integrate them into our company. What pleases us most is that we were also able to take over the entire team and have gained so much expertise. The Basel locations will also continue to be run as traditional dry-cleaning stores where you can drop off and pick up your clothes.
More than 80% of all start-up companies fail in the first three years. All the greater is the joy that we can celebrate our 5th anniversary this year together with our approximately 50 employees! We are very grateful for the great support from our customers and our team.
We introduced a minimum wage of CHF 4’000 at Bubble Box in January for a 100 percent workload. One of our values is social responsibility. We want to pay our team fairly for the work they do and offer prospects. The job in dry cleaning is physically demanding. Not to mention our team of drivers, who spend hours at the wheel, where high levels of concentration are required.
Our first production at Kirchstrasse in Wallisellen becomes too small. The laundry is already almost on the street and the dress line is bursting at the seams. On August 1st, we moved to Widenholzstrasse in Wallisellen. On a production area of 750 m2 we now produce the majority of our orders and were also able to centralize the logistics for the Zurich region. In addition, we left our first physical location on Uetlibergstrasse in Zurich and also moved the office to Wallisellen. This step was enormously important for further growth and to further simplify our processes.
Finally, the time has come! The first digital locker station for laundry is located in the Manegg in Zurich. As a young company, we focus on digitalization and were finally able to launch our first drop-off point that is completely digital.
As of October 1st, 2022, we were allowed to take over Tubago GmbH and expanded our customer base. With the acquisition of Tubago we also expanded our delivery area Zurich North. Tubago pursued the same values and goals as Bubble Box, which is why the acquisition was a complete success!
We are the winners! With our home delivery service and the «Wöschpost», we brought the award «Textile Service of the Year» from the trade magazine R+W Textilservice to Wallisellen this year! The concept convinced the international jury consisting of industry experts from A to Z. We are extremely pleased that our service is also so well received within the industry and internationally.
Almost six years after our first order, in January we received and processed order #100’000. We look forward to continuing to provide our customers with fresh fragrance and free time.
Six years have passed since the launch and in these six years we have learned a lot, implemented a lot and expanded a lot. With the utmost care, a lot of passion and a thousand new ideas, we have operated on our “heart” over the last year and are now finally able to present our new website with a lot of new, exciting content and a completely redesigned check-out process. Another big milestone in the Bubble Box history.
Laundry has been even easier since June 2023. With the “EASY” offering, we created the simplest laundry service in Switzerland. 1 laundry bag for everything that can be washed and tumble-dried. The new offering allows us to meet the needs of our customers even better and address new target groups.
After a long wait, we were finally welcoming our new vehicles in October 2023. 6 new Ford Transits are now conquering the Swiss roads in their eye-catching design, with more space and better equipment for even more fresh laundry.
Almost 3 years after the acquisition of the shop in the Basel area, the locations in Binningen and Basel received a new look in January 2024. Fresh turquoise and a striking but simple design – our eye-catchers are shining in a brand new light!
